In many African cultures, the African elephant symbolizes strength, wisdom, power, and longevity. They are revered for their size, cooperative spirit, and intelligence. They exhibit a wide variety of behaviors, including those associated with grief, learning, mimicry, art, play, a sense of humor, altruism, use of tools, compassion, cooperation, self-awareness, memory and possibly language.

African elephants are the largest animals walking the Earth. There are two species of African elephants—the savanna (or bush) elephant and the forest elephant. Their herds wander through 37 countries in Africa.
